The conversion of the upper two floors of a typical early Victorian
London House. The ceiling heights on the top floor were too low and planning regulations would not allow any new roof
above existing parapet level. The solution was to create a large
flat, sliding sky light , creating the illusion of infinite light
and space. The skylight has an external blind which is controlled
automatically by a sun sensor, so that the apartment is never too
hot in the summer. Glass panels are cut into the top floor in order
to bring daylight to the internal spaces below.
